Seven Singles in 2024 from the STIR series
WE ARE JUST PAST THE MIDWAY POINT IN MY SERIES, “STIR: Soundscapes Evoking Realities Only Imagined”.
The SINGLES
With this series, my approach has been to really mix it up pretty much to an extreme. I have worked hard to draw on every musical influence I could remember from my entire life as a musician, and blend them into new musical constructs that don’t fit into any category easily. My guiding principles have been:
1. Draw influences from many cultures and histories
2. Don’t overcomplicate the melodies. Keep them accessible for everyone.
3. Rely heavily on rhythm and arrangement flow
4. Create thick interlocking layers of these above elements
Music analysis algorithms have been laughable in their attempts to identify my genre.
I guess then that I am succeeding in my efforts to not be categorized.
If there is one thing that my music has in common, it’s its evocative nature and natural pairing with visual arts. I approach these compositions as mini soundtracks, not as songs. They are not even close to popular music, and have way more in common with classical, jazz, new age, bluegrass, various Asian folk styles, and southwestern Americana. I draw heavily from all these sources, as well as the occasional funk, rock, and plenty of electronica elements.
My process would seem chaotic to many. I recently spent 14 straight hours one day in my studio “jamming” (lunch break only) and by ear alone, came up with a classical suite paying homage to my favorite classical composers: Debussy, Ravel, Stravinsky, Copeland, Harris. This has become a 2-1/2 minute opening to my upcoming single “American Velocity”, being released on May 2 2025. I hope you’ll stick around to witness the result of these efforts.
I have released seven singles so far in the STIR series:

DRIFTER IN PARADISE
PTSD: Paris-Tokyo Suborbital Departures
