STIR : soundtracks to your inner stories

Many people have commented throughout the many years I’ve worked as a musician, how much my original stuff reminds them of something from a film or tv show. Those comments have cemented my focus on the style I’ve developed, and encouraged me to start producing releasable material of my own. I spent 11 years producing music for other artists and clients, but only now am I doing it solely myself. My experience spans everything from progressive rock to dance music and everything in between it seems. And I have to reiterate the huge influence my childhood years of classical piano studies have had.

All of this has come together for me as a musical artform that attempts to capture emotion without usually resorting to any lyrics. I have come to believe that lyrics might at times even cloud what speaks from the music itself. Any fan of instrumental music, from bebop to bluegrass gets that. My mission now is to capture some of the drama, the humor, the wonder….of the moment and of the bigger picture. Maybe I’m trying too hard to be “poetic” about this, but honestly, I see little point in this exercise without that. It drives what I am about as an artist, and what the results will be as well.

I often think about what emotions, imagery or events might unfold in someone else listening to my music. What do THEY think it means, if anything? Is it a story? Does it feel like something? Maybe a series of ‘somethings”?

This project has been a lot of effort on many fronts, and is finally coming to fruition. True success may come in many forms, perhaps only my own fulfillment. Of course only time will tell what’s going to happen. I do plan on doing this for quite some time. Hopefully you will come along for the ride.

First I will “STIR” the pot and see what comes up.

‘till next time…
